Generational Diversity in the Workplace

There are currently five generations present in the workforce for the first time in American history. The five generations are Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, also known as Generation Y; and Generation Z, also known as Zoomers. This can present challenges when each generation has different backgrounds, life experiences, values, attitudes towards work and life, and communication styles.

The Municipal Association of SC Risk Management Services will be offering a two-hour session on this topic at its training on September 24. The session will be presented by Melissa Furman of Career Potential, LLC. Furman will provide descriptive details about each generation to allow attendees to understand them and how to leverage the strengths of each generation to create inclusive work environments. She will provide knowledge, skills and strategies to lead, recruit, retain and train employees across multiple generations which will lead to increased employee satisfaction and productivity.

The remaining two hours of this training session will be devoted to “Understanding the Impact of Impairment in the Workplace.” Taylor Harrison of the National Safety Council Southeastern Chapter will provide employers with insights and strategies to identify and address issues related to impairment and fatigue at work which will result in safer, healthier and more productive work environments.

Registration for this training will open on August 12. This training will satisfy the Risk Management Institute core course requirement for employment liability.
