Job Duties

Job duties include but are not limited to managing the police department which includes hiring, assessing, disciplining, and terminating personnel.

Coordinate and conduct training of officers when necessary. Lead daily operations of police department as a working chief: to include preparing reports, conducting investigations to include complaints, and maintaining public safety.

Develop programs that will prevent criminal activities within your scope of jurisdiction. Enforcement of local codes and ordinances. Regular traffic enforcement is a must.

Qualifications

HS Diploma, GED, or equivalent. SC Class 1 certified through the SC Criminal Justice Academy with at least 10 years law enforcement experience, with 2 years in a management or supervisory capacity. Other military or private sector supervisory experiences may be considered. Must live within 30 minutes of the Hemingway Town limits.

College education is preferred but is not necessary for the position. Must be able to successfully complete a background check, credit check, drug screening and possess a valid SC driver’s license. No criminal record and the driving record must reflect responsible driving.

A current out of state police certificate may be considered if you meet the minimum requirements for police chief and can successfully complete the SCCJA class 1 certification process within 60 days of registration, including all screening and background requirements.
