Job Duties

The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled technical work to operate, control and maintain equipment at a wastewater treatment plant to maintain compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental rules and regulations. Incumbents in this classification are under close supervision and engaged in extensive training to learn and understand the requirements necessary for the effective and efficient operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. This position requires 12-hour rotating shifts to include some nights, weekends, and holidays.

Essential Functions: Operates an assigned wastewater treatment plant. Monitors chemical feeds and distribution, flow rates, and related treatment processes. Reads meters, gauges and dials. Collects and tests wastewater samples. Inspects plant systems, facilities and equipment. Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures. Operates a personal computer and other electronic devices.

Utilizes maintenance/work order/department-specific software to issue, receive and complete orders. May be required to perform grounds maintenance. Required to operate Dewatering and Bio Solids Dryer as needed and perform other related duties.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response to call outs.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Must obtain a valid D Level Wastewater Treatment Operator license within 18 months of hire or transfer into position.

Pay Info
Pay range is $18.41 - $29.44 / hour.
