Community Police Officer, City of Fountain Inn
The purpose of this classification is to protect life and property, deter criminal activity, and enforce all local, state, and federal laws, statutes, and regulations. Incumbents in this classification interact daily with community members to build trust, inform them about the police department’s work, and build community partnerships. They provide residents and business owners with crime prevention tips and best practices to keep them safe and their property secure. The individual in this role promotes community relations between the police department and the public.
Enforces all applicable traffic and criminal codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations to protect life and property, prevent crime, and promote security. Responsible for coordinating and conducting community meetings such as Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch, and informational workshops. Conducts biannual drug takeback events and helps monitor the prescription drug drop-off box in the police department lobby. Serves as a supplemental resource to aid patrol teams with issues requiring more advanced problem-solving and long-term efforts to decrease criminal activity.
Conducts safety and welfare checks for senior citizens; receives and reviews the list of senior citizens on the watch list; makes phone calls and visits; plans quarterly lunches; and organizes the annual Thanksgiving lunch. Assists residents and businesses with safety and security surveys utilizing Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED). Organizes and plans events that improve police and community relations, such as National Night, Annual Golf Tournament, Superhero 5K, Gregg’s Groceries, and Police Summer Camps.
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by two years of experience as a Certified Police Officer; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Must possess and maintain a Class 1 Law Enforcement Certification from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA).
