Job Duties

The Municipal Judge will perform various judicial functions for the court which include conducting summary court trials, arraigning prisoners, signing warrants, issuing bench warrants, imposing sentences as is appropriate with their judgment and in accordance with SC State Law.

The Municipal Judge will oversee preliminary hearings, set bonds, and prepare circuit court bond papers and forms as needed. This position is part-time, and the salary is set by the Mayor and Council.

Qualifications

The municipal judge that is not an attorney must complete a training program and pass a certification examination within one year of appointment.

The municipal judge must attend annual training to receive the number of approved education hours required by the SC Supreme Court in criminal law and subject areas related to municipal judge duties.

Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's license.

Pay Info
Pay is set by Jefferson Mayor and Town Council.
