Job Duties

Assists customers in applying for business licenses, explains relevant procedures, and reviews submitted applications and information for accuracy and completeness; provides advice and assistance in achieving code compliance. Coordinates renewals for commercial printing of current year business license applications and second notices, and Assessment letters. Processes new and renewal business license applications; assigns classification and assesses fees and penalties if applicable; enters information into computer system.

Locates new businesses using various sources of information; prepares reports of new businesses for various departments and agencies as required. Audits businesses for taxes due; notifies business of amounts due, penalties and deadlines for payment; establishes payment plans as necessary. Assesses license taxes and penalties for businesses failing to renew licenses for the current year; prepares and sends notices; initiates action by Code Enforcement personnel as necessary.

Manages City online portal and online payment portal through the Municipal Association. Verifies the amount paid was correct and the correct NAICS code. Approves or disapproves the license as well as updates information as needed. Scan and email a receipt packet to the Customer Service Supervisor, and makes sure the correct gross and amount paid are applied to the license.

Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and one year of college or vocational school education in business, secretarial science or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. May require possession of business licensing accreditation as deemed necessary by supervisor.

Pay Info
Salary range $48,214.34 - $67,501.17. Excellent benefits package including 13 holidays, participation in the State Retirement System, the SC Deferred Compensation Plan, and the State Health Plan with the employee’s health and basic dental insurance premiums paid by the city.
