Position Hours
8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend and on-call hours expected.
Job Duties

Assists the fire marshal with pre-construction plans and specifications review to ensure compliance with all local, state, and national fire and building codes; provides interpretation of fire and/or building codes to the public as requested. Conducts code compliance inspections on all existing commercial buildings within assigned area to ensure compliance with all local, state, and national fire and building codes. Works with engineers, architects, and contractors to correct code discrepancies.

Assists fire marshal to ensure all commercial properties are inspected annually at a minimum. Assists with investigating complaints regarding fire code violations and prepares written reports of findings. Prepares and/or processes inspection reports, code violation reports, correction notices, various permits, investigation reports, incident reports, and various other reports, memos, and correspondence.

Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of department rules and regulations, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and standard operational guidelines (SOGs). Develops, plans, and administers fire prevention programs for schools and other available opportunities within the district for the public. (Refer to full job description for additional duties.)

Qualifications

Possess a High School Diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of two years experience as a firefighter. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State of South Carolina within ninety days of position appointment. Must possess or be eligible to obtain: NFPA 1001 Firefighter II, NFPA 1021 Fire Officer I, ICC or NFPA Fire Inspector I, NFPA Driver Operator or equivalent. Must possess National Registry EMT certification or higher or obtain NREMT certification within twenty-four (24) months of employment. Pay Info
Salary range $51,866.32 - $72,613.94. Excellent benefits package including 13 holidays, participation in the State Retirement System, the SC Deferred Compensation Plan, and the State Health Plan with the employee’s health and basic dental insurance premiums paid by the city.
