Human Resources Coordinator, City of West Columbia
Coordinates meetings, events, and activities as directed by the Director of Human Resources. Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions. Assists with the recruitment process by managing job postings, scheduling interviews, and coordinating with supervisors. Plays a vital role in onboarding new hires, ensuring a smooth transition into their roles. Supports new hires and existing employees with employee benefits; coordinates with supplemental insurance providers, manages related documentation, and coordinates other fringe benefits with all employees.
Enters information into various departmental systems including financial and benefits management. Assists with position management including set-up, entry, and updates in any HR module of the enterprise system. Maintains and updates employee paper records and electronic records within any HRIS system. Generates reports and analyzes HR data as needed. Prepares new employee files. Supports the recruitment and hiring process by organizing the interview process, preparing application packets, scheduling appointments, completing background and reference checks, maintaining records and information
Provides excellent customer service to employees, addressing questions and concerns regarding benefits, HR policies, procedures, and regulations. Assists with performance management processes, including data collection, reporting and communication with supervisors regarding employee performance appraisal due dates. Coordinates and participates in training programs for new hires and existing employees. Stays updated on training opportunities and resources to recommend to departments.
Requires a high-school diploma and 3 to 5 years of progressive human resources experience, good speaking skills, and excellent writing skills, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. An Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or a related field may be substituted for the required work experience.
Must have a strong understanding of HR principles, practices, and employment law. Must also have excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously; proven ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
