Job Duties

Completion of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy within the first year of employment. Achievement and maintenance of firearms proficiency according to departmental standards.

Patrols designated areas to observe and check on homes, businesses and the general welfare. Responds to specific incidents relayed by the dispatcher and conducts preliminary investigations when needed. Prevents the commission of unlawful acts; apprehends criminals or other persons menacing the general public.

 Enforces traffic and safety regulations for pedestrians and motor vehicles. Serves warrants, subpoenas and other writs. Ensures businesses on the island are secure at night. Testifies in court as required.

Qualifications

Must be 21 years of age and have a valid South Carolina Driver's License. And a High School Diploma or GED.

United States Citizenship.

No conviction of a felony or crime of moral turpitude.
