Job Duties

The City of Pickens is seeking a highly qualified Public Works Director to oversee and manage all public works operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and supervision of various public works projects and services, ensuring the effective maintenance and improvement of the city's facilities, infrastructure, solid waste services and oversight of contracted water and sewer utilities functions. This position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and excellent communication skills.

Oversee the daily operations of the Public Works Department, including maintenance and repair of streets, residential and commercial sanitation, garbage pickup, and building and grounds services. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and long-term plans to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of public works services. Prepare and manage the department's budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficient allocation of resources. Coordinate with other city departments, government agencies, and contractors to plan and execute public works projects.

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and standards related to public works and infrastructure. Supervise and evaluate the performance of public works staff, providing guidance, training, and professional development opportunities. Oversee the supervision of contracted water and sewer management personnel, ensuring quality and compliance with service agreements. Address and resolve citizen inquiries and complaints regarding public works services. Conduct inspections and assessments to identify and prioritize maintenance and improvement

Qualifications

College degree in related field, Public Administration (MPA), Business Administration (MBA), Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Proven experience in project management, public works management, municipal administration, or similar education or experience in a related field.

Pay Info
Competitive salary depending on qualifications. Expected range $64,000 to $74,000. State benefits. Vehicle provided.
