What is a listserve?
A listserve is an electronic forum in which members may engage in discussion, ask questions and share feedback and resources to benefit from peers' experience in similar professional positions. The following guidelines and etiquette have been established to provide participants the best user experience.
Guidelines
- Be respectful of the opinions and rights of others and treat them with courtesy.
- Be mindful of what you say and how you say it. Keep your tone positive.
- Be cautious with the use of humor or sarcasm.
- Use of defamatory, abusive, hostile, profane, offensive, threatening or illegal materials are prohibited.
- While informational posts about products and services that address specific needs are acceptable when solicited by a participant,
- Use caution when discussing people, products, or services. Posts are public
information and subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.
- Refrain from posting commercial messages and endorsements of products or
services. - Understand that communications for governmental purposes are subject to the SC Freedom of Information Act. There is no expectation of privacy for or limitations on access to any comments or materials posted.
- Remember posts contain user-generated content. Advice or information posted is the personal opinion of the contributor and should not be considered legal advice or relied upon without independent verification.
Etiquette
- Remember to set up your signature tag and include your name and municipality.
- Use a clear and concise topic description in the subject line to identify the issue and assist with archive searches.
- Reply to posts only when the information offered will benefit all participants.
- Refrain from the following types of message replies
- “thank you for the information”
- “congratulations or best wishes” and
- “me too.” - Refrain from personal comments directed to any individual participant, messages that add no value or messages that are only an acknowledgment of receiving the original post.
- Do not post job openings or solicit applicants. Instead, use the Association’s Jobs Opening webpage.
- Do not post messages for listserve administrative issues. Instead, visit the Member Home page to change your email address through My Profile. Contact your moderator to discontinue participation or for other administrative questions.

The Municipal Association of SC does not actively monitor the site for inappropriate postings and does not on its own undertake editorial control of postings. However, in the event that any inappropriate posting is brought to the attention of the Association, we will take all appropriate action.

In addition, other users may republish or distribute content you share on this site.
