Main Street SC Intern 2025
Main Street SC is a comprehensive downtown revitalization program that promotes the historic and economic redevelopment of traditional business districts throughout the state. Main Street SC is a technical assistance program of the Municipal Association of SC and the state coordinating program recognized by Main Street America. The Main Street SC Intern will assist the Main Street SC Manager in programmatic initiatives and WeShopSC, the statewide digital community platform. Specific projects include coordinating with local market managers and developing WeShopSC programmatic & educational materials for state-wide use.
Details
- Date range – begins on or after May 12, 2025; ends on or before August 1, 2025
- 20 hours a week (12 weeks)
- Jenny Boulware, Main Street SC Manager, will serve as the intern supervisor at the Municipal Association of SC.
- The intern will be subject to all Municipal Association rules and policies.
- While the Association anticipates that the intern will continue for the full time specified, the internship may be terminated at any time.
Intern duties include
- Learning and being fully trained on WeShopSC/Beyond Main platform systems
- Liaises with community businesses, local leaders, and the WeShopSC program staff
- Attends WeShopSC training and leadership meetings.
- Creates free directory listings for and with small businesses.
- Assists small businesses in inventory photography using photo light box.
- Assists in the development of marketing materials (podcasts, video shorts, graphics, etc.) to support WeShopSC.
- Encourages and supports the statewide digital community space.
- Assists in developing e-commerce education and training.
Requirements
- Ability to work 20 hours per week.
- Must possess at least a 3.5 GPA.
- Demonstrate professional interest in two or more of these areas of focus: community development, economic development, information technology, communication, business administration, public policy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with various software for scanning, editing, and cataloging is a plus (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Microsoft Excel).

What We’re Searching For
The Municipal Association of SC is accepting applications for the position of HR Coordinator/Executive Assistant. This full-time position assists with human resources coordination while also providing high-level administrative assistance to the executive team. This position reports to the operations manager.
Job Duties:
- Assist with HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and benefits administration.
- Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with employees, vendors, members and other stakeholders including handling inquiries, coordinating meetings, and providing exceptional customer service.
- Organize and maintain electronic and physical filing systems as well as assisting with maintaining HRIS to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
- Serve as a point of contact for executive director, managing his calendar, helping to schedule meetings and coordinating travel arrangements. May also provide some limited administrative assistance for other members of executive team.
- Assist with coordinating board meetings and other events as assigned; assist with event registration; prepare and distribute information packets; agendas, badges, and other items as needed.
- Assist with coordinating employee events.
- Maintain inventory for office supplies.
- Assists with inputting and monitoring work orders for building maintenance issues.
- Serves as a back-up for the receptionist when needed.
- Provides support for the Association’s online resources (website, intranet, etc.) by posting designed content.
- Performs other routine clerical work.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education with an emphasis in human resources, business administration or a related field.
- Five years of human resources and/or executive assistance experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for two years of experience. Experience dealing with confidential information is required.
- Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office. Experience with human resources information system (HRIS) is preferred.
- An understanding/exposure to HR principles and practices and employment laws is helpful.
- Excellent interpersonal, detail orientation, analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, decision making, and communication skills; and the ability to work as a team player.
- Discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Great organization, planning, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Proactive problem-solving skills with a positive and collaborative attitude.
- SC driver’s license.
