Spotlight on Loss Control
The Loss Control department of Risk Management Services provides technical support and professional consulting services in risk management and loss control analysis to members of the SC Municipal Insurance and Risk Financing Fund and SC Municipal Insurance Trust. This helps members minimize losses and manage necessary exposures.
The department consists of Bethany Pendley, loss control manager; John Ciesielski, loss control consultant; and Chris Radcliff, public safety loss control consultant. These three staff members have a combined 69 years of experience.
For the department’s staff, each day can consist of different tasks. Staff spends a large portion of each year on the road visiting members. During the visits, staff will discuss annual reviews, risk self-assessments, conduct training and provide resources to help members develop effective safety programs. Providing these resources enable staff to help members reduce hazards which could potentially lead to a reduction in injuries and claims. When staff are in the office, they are writing safety articles, reviewing policies and procedures as well as responding to member requests.
For the Loss Control staff, nothing is more rewarding than receiving positive feedback from members after personal attention has been provided during a member visit or phone call.
