Krystal Bailey Joins Risk Management Services as SCMIRF Senior Claims Adjuster
Work Experience: has over 11 years of insurance experience at Progressive Insurance and American Modern Insurance. Most recently, worked as a senior litigation specialist at Seibels for the past two years.
Hometown: Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Education: bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
Hobbies: cycling, mountain biking, kayaking and woodworking.

Spotlight on Underwriting
The underwriting section of the Municipal Association's Risk Management Services classifies payroll and assets, calculates the appropriate premiums and places specialty coverage for members of the SC Municipal Insurance and Risk Financing Fund and SC Municipal Insurance Trust.
The underwriting staff consists of Robert Collins, underwriting manager and Chassidy Sistrunk, underwriter. Together they have over 35 years of underwriting experience.
The daily tasks completed include processing endorsement requests, producing certificates of insurance and evidence of property insurance, writing insurance policies through Municipal Insurance Services and responding to member requests. Annual tasks include renewal of policies and payroll audits.
The underwriting staff processes nearly 1,000 endorsements each year. Approximately 10 policies and 50 bonds are written each year through MIS, an insurance agency that writes ancillary policies for SCMIRF members. These include environmental policies, special events policies and public official bonds.
The underwriting staff enjoy interacting with the SC Municipal Insurance Trust and SC Municipal Insurance and Risk Financing Fund members, and training both new and existing members on the policy portal. After the staff works with members, they find the members to be comfortable accessing the portal and excited to have learned something new.

2021 Risk Management Services Grant Funding Still Available
Risk Management Services grant funding is still available to fund essential risk reduction initiatives.
After completing the required application process, members can request reimbursement for up to 50% of the cost for allowable equipment purchases. Request are limited to $2,000 per member, per grant, per year for the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Grant and Fire Service Grant. The Public Works Property and Liability Reduction Grant requests are limited to $4,000 per member.
The COVID-19 Safety Grant is limited to $2,000 per member with no matching requirement.
The deadline to request reimbursement is December 10, 2021.

Elevating Inclusive Excellence Training
In August, Risk Management Services conducted an online and in-person training titled "Elevating Inclusive Excellence." The sessions took place in Columbia and Simpsonville. Dr. Katrina Hutchins of Re-Source Solutions conducted an interactive and engaging session on enhancing personal and professional well-being, making a stronger team environment, elevating interpersonal awareness and elevating personal voice.
The interactive session focused on a deeper dive into understanding that humans want to be valued, heard and seen. Interpersonal relationships require trust, respect and commitment. When there is no trust, respect or commitment, people will not feel valued, heard or seen. Attendees also discussed elevating a person's voice, a concept that covers attitude, disposition, demeanor and body movements. Research has shown that in communication only 7% occurs in words and 93% occurs in actions. Understanding the power of voice leads to powerful listening, learning, action and delivery.
Lessons learned during the session can be used by the attendees to improve their personal and professional lives.
One of the "Elevating Inclusive Excellence" sessions took place at the Simpsonville Senior Activity Center on August 12.
2021 Risk Management Services Training
Two more training courses are coming in 2021 for SC Municipal Insurance Trust and SC Municipal Insurance and Risk Financing Fund members. Risk Management Services will continue to monitor the status of COVID-19 to ensure the safety and wellbeing of members, and will maintain appropriate safety protocols at each meeting.
