Wastewater Pumping Station Mechanic, Town of Chapin Utilities
The position primarily maintains and repairs wastewater pumping stations, focusing on pumps, motors, valves, and electrical controls. Duties include troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, performing preventive maintenance, inspecting systems, performing repairs, and assisting with additional repairs to water and sewer mains.
The Town of Chapin Utilities Department is seeking a skilled and dedicated Wastewater Pumping Station Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of wastewater pumping stations, with a strong emphasis on the upkeep and troubleshooting of mechanical systems and electrical controls. The role ensures efficient and reliable service in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations by maintaining pumps, motors, valves, and the critical electrical control systems that regulate station operations.
The Wastewater Pumping Station Mechanic plays an essential role in safeguarding the town’s wastewater management infrastructure, ensuring public health, environmental safety, and operational excellence through diligent care of both mechanical and electrical components. Key functions are: Maintenance and Repair; Electrical Control Maintenance; Inspections; Preventative Maintenance; Troubleshooting; Record Keeping; Safety Compliance; Collaboration with staff; Inventory Management; Emergency Response.
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of a technical or vocational program in mechanical systems, electrical controls, wastewater technology, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of wastewater pumping stations, industrial machinery, or similar systems, with demonstrated expertise in servicing electrical control systems.
Certifications: Possession of a valid South Carolina Driver’s License. South Carolina Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification (Level D or higher) is preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills, with a focus on pumps and motors. Advanced proficiency in maintaining and repairing electrical control systems, including wiring, relays, PLCs, and automation components. Knowledge of wastewater pumping systems, including centrifugal pumps, hydraulic systems, and their associated electrical controls. Familiarity with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and their integration with pumping station electrical controls is a plus.
