Job Duties

Under general supervision, the Senior Accountant is responsible for various functions in the Finance Department. Assists the Director of Finance in planning, organizing, and coordinating various financial activities for the Town and in the preparation of the Town’s annual budget; responsible for coordinating the audit of the Town; prepares assigned financial reports and documents.

Performs bank reconciliations and the monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts. Daily review and posting of all ACH deposits. Assists with all other deposits and postings as needed. Oversees fixed assets, posting disposals, acquisitions as well as quarterly and annual depreciation. Maintain project and grant documentation. Assist with debt issuances and maintain debt schedules. Assist with monthly Town Council reports. Performs daily and monthly journal entries. Assist in the preparation of the annual budget for all fund accounts.

Prepares information for the annual audit and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Prepares annual reports for the state and other entities. Assist Human Resources with payroll functions, including but not limited to payroll for employees bi-weekly; bi-weekly and quarterly reporting for federal taxes, state taxes, retirement, and unemployment. Assist Human Resources with annual worker’s compensation audit. Back-up for issuance of business licenses by the Town and provide coverage for front desk customer service. Assists other finance personnel with accounting issues. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university in accounting or business. A minimum of 5-years’ experience in accounting Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) desired but not required. Ability to perform accounting calculations; estimating revenue and expenditures; perform spreadsheet analysis. Computer skills include Microsoft Office Suite, department-related software, internet and email. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to read and interpret correspondence, ordinance, resolution and proclamation documents.

Ability to work effectively with the public, employees, and other agencies and departments. Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment within the limits of the position and perform a variety of tasks simultaneously or in rapid succession. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

Pay Info
Pay Grade / Salary Range: H / $65,030 - $91,080

FLSA Status: Exempt
