School Resource Officer, City of Fountain Inn
Maintain detailed records of the School Resource Officer Program on a monthly basis and shall forward the same to the SRO supervisor. Advises schools on safety procedures; takes law enforcement action to protect against intruders on school property as necessary; and serves as a liaison between law enforcement, school personnel, parents, and students. Provides dedicated support to assigned schools when requested, including but not limited to: Special Event Security, Sports Event Security, and field trips. May provide relief duties at other schools and locations.
Performs all duties as a Police Officer when called upon. Performs specialized activities as a School Resource Officer on a regular basis. Ensures the safety and security of students and staff at assigned school: patrols school facilities and events; serves as visible and active law enforcement officer on campus to deter crime; coordinates security and safety during school hours and at after-school programs and functions at the request of administration; conducts checks and monitors interior and exterior of school buildings and grounds; ensures buildings are securely locked as required.
Conducts preliminary investigations of crimes committed on school property: interviews victims, complainants and witnesses and takes statements; gathers information and evidence; prepares investigative reports and sketches; participates in court activities; and testifies in judicial proceedings.
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by two years of experience as a Police Officer; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Must possess and maintain Class 1 Basic Law Enforcement, and School Resource Officer Certifications from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA). Must obtain and maintain DARE Instructor Certification.
Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
