Job Duties

The City of Clemson is seeking to fill the position of Public Information Officer. This position is responsible for executing effective programs to inform and educate the public and news media about information concerning the City of Clemson. Collaborates with City personnel across all departments to identify communications and public engagement opportunities and strategies. Writes and provides editorial support for official correspondence and statement as well as speeches and presentations.

Oversees the planning, development, and implementation of the City’s strategic public information plan. Implements a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy for the City, including internal and external communications, media relations, and special events. Serves as the main point of contact for news media outlets and the general public on public relation communications on behalf of the City. Responsible for receiving, investigating, and responding to questions from external media and the general public.

Works closely with the Community Engagement Coordinator and Content Creator in the preparation and dissemination of information. Conducts research and contacts departments, community and civic agencies to gather data required to prepare materials for news releases, speeches, fact sheets and public relations information.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or a related field; four (4) years of experience; knowledge of the function and organization of municipal government; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

$71,348.00 - $78,348.00 Annually
