Job Duties

The position is to serve as a liaison between the Department and neighborhood/community groups. Responds to complaints, issues and concerns then assists in developing processes for solutions. Provides guidance, assistance and information to neighborhood associations as needed. Makes recommendations for and facilitates community-oriented service delivery and problem solving. Utilizes Asset Based Community Development Principles and Deliberative Dialogue processes to facilitate Police And Community Engagement sessions to build mutual trust and accountability.

Assists in the development and facilitation of projects and programs such as National Night Out to generate citizen involvement in the process of creating and sustaining safe communities in Orangeburg. Facilitates the community component of the Department’s violence reduction program. Connects Notified Participants and their families with appropriate services and resources. Develops awareness campaigns to promote safe communities’ message.

Participates with the Department’s Training Division to provide community policing presentations for New Recruits, Citizens Academy and others. Provides community engagement support to other Divisions, as needed. Assists in developing pamphlets, presentations, flyers, and other literature. Makes copies of documents and reports.

Qualifications

Two-year college degree in a related field or High school diploma or equivalent with two years relevant experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Pay Info
$34,500 annually
