Fire Marshall, City of West Columbia
Supervises personnel including, but not limited to: assigns and plans work of others; establishes performance standards; coordinates activities and allocates personnel; makes decisions and recommendations related to staffing, performance evaluations, salary increases, and training; and ensures compliance with applicable personnel guidelines and department policy.
Coordinates and supervises the fire code enforcement program for the City, including but not limited to: inspects buildings for fire hazards and general compliance with the national, state, and locally adopted codes and NFPA standards; assigns areas of inspection and responsibility to personnel; researches national and local statistics and information; identifies trends, and implements or recommends prevention programs to ensure compliance; interprets fire and building codes in response to inquiries from architects, engineers, contractors and the general public; reviews plans, specification.
Conducts pre-construction plans and specifications review to ensure compliance with all with local, state, and national fire and building codes. Works with engineers, architects, and contractors to correct code discrepancies. Investigates complaints regarding fire code violations and prepares written report of findings. Requires at least five years of progressive fire service experience, in addition three years of fire inspection experience, and must also have two years of supervisory experience. A combination of experience, specialized training, and an education may be used to substitute experience
Must possess NFPA Firefighter II, NFPA Driver Operator or equivalent, NFPA Fire Instructor I, NFPA Fire Officer I, ICC Fire Inspector I or NFPA equivalent, IAAI-Fire Investigation Technician (FIT), ICS 300/400, NREMT or Paramedic within twenty-four months of appointment.
Must possess high school diploma or GED and a valid S.C. driver license.
