Job Duties

1. Performs fire and rescue operations as required to save life and property. 2. Responds to emergency incidents that involve a high risk to department personnel and mitigate any safety hazards observed. 3. Develops, executes, and supervises a continuing public fire education program. 4. Administers and enforces fire codes and ordinances for the City. 5. Reviews and approves architectural and engineering documents. 6. Inspects new construction as well as existing facilities. 7. Inspects state‐licensed facilities.

8. Responds to any incident as required and assist with suppression and management operations as determined by the Incident Commander. 9. Investigates fires of a suspicious nature and coordinates with other agencies involved in the investigation. 10. Inspects for hazards associated with storing and handling flammable and combustible liquids and materials, as well as compressed and liquefied gases and Class C explosives. 11. Inspects, evaluates, and approves installation and testing of all fixed and portable fire protection systems.

12. Calculates egress requirements, determines the proper location of exits, and inspects and approves means of egress devices such as doors, hardware, and lights. 13. Inspects and approves interior finish requirements as to designated occupancies. 14. Assists various occupancies in the development and implementation of emergency evacuation plans. 15. Receives, reviews, processes, files, and submits various documents and reports such as architectural drawings, electrical diagrams, sprinkler diagrams, alarm service reports, inspection compliance reports, etc.

Qualifications

High School Diploma, or equivalent, and five years of firefighting experience and one year of code enforcement experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Additionally, certification from NFPA/ICC as a Fire Inspector I is required.

Pay Info
Pay range: $56,000 - $64,000 depending on experience.
