Crew Leader - Water, City of Orangeburg Department of Public Utilities
The purpose of this classification is to lead an assigned crew of workers involved in installing, maintaining and repairing water distribution lines and related system components as assigned.
Essential Functions: Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crew or co-workers. Leads and participates in the performance of general repairs to the water distribution system. Leads and participates in the repairing of asphalt and concrete after repairs to water distribution systems. Receives and completes work orders. Utilizes, operates, and maintains various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments. Adheres to established safety procedures. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in closely related field preferred. High School Diploma or GED is required; supplemented by five years of progressively responsible experience in specific work area which includes on the job and formal training; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response to call outs and emergencies.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s). An A Level Water Distribution Operator license is preferred; otherwise, must obtain a D Level License within 18 months of hire, C Level within 30 months, B Level within 42 months, and A Level within 54 months, or equivalent 10 years continuing experience in water distribution operations with B Level Water Distribution Operator license.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to operate a computer and/or tablet to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, database, e-mail, or other software. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
