Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Responds to fire alarms, takes command, completes size-up, gives in-coming apparatus orders, insures accountability of personnel and may have to deploy and connect hoses, assures proper pump pressure, operates nozzles and directs water stream at fire emergencies.
Performs search and rescue operations to prevent injury and loss of life, performs firefighting task to isolate and suppress involved areas to prevent loss of property. Performs ventilation in burning buildings, salvage operations, and preserves evidence to determine cause of fire. Responds to medical calls and provides initial care for victim until relieved. Oversees all facilities and equipment relating to the fire station. Attends and participates in training and instruction drills. Performs general maintenance work in the up-keep of fire department property.
Assumes command at fire, emergencies and or special assignment until relieved by Fire Chief. Supervises and assists in the training of personnel in firefighting. Provides additional shift coverage as needed. Conducts follow up inspections as assigned by the Fire Marshall.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must be at least 21 years of age or older. High school diplomas or equivalent. Must have a South Carolina CDL or Class E Driver License. Ability to pass background check, drug and alcohol screening as well as medical and physical examinations.
Education and/or Experience Any combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities will be accepted. Ten years of experience in firefighting. Fire Fighter I and II – IFSAC or Pro Board. Pump Operations – IFSAC or Pro Board. Aerial Operations – IFSAC or Pro Board. Emergency Vehicle Driver Training. Fire Officer I and II. Incident Safety Office. NIMS-ICS – 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800. Auto Extrication. Incident Command System. Fire Instructor I. EMT.
Preferred Skills: .Associates degree in related field preferred. Five years at the rank of Fire Officer or above. Paramedic- $2500.00 medic bonus annually Certificates, Licenses, Registrations. Must have a South Carolina Certified EMT or National Registered EMT certification and maintain the certification throughout their career.
