Job Duties

The primary role of this position is to handle routine to moderately complex clerical tasks related to using business licenses, collecting associated payments, and maintaining business license records. Additional clerical duties may be assigned as needed.

Obtains required information/documentation to issue business licenses including: Type of business to determine the NAICS Code. Determine rate class based on the NAICS Code. Determine the correct fee due based on gross income (or estimate of gross income).

Maintains accurate and up-to-date customer records in software. Make notes of all matters discussed with the customer along with the outcome of the discussion. Coordinates with Building and Codes department for all business inspections and business license compliance for new vendors within the city. Updates the Building and Codes software for permits.

Qualifications

Requires performing semi-skilled work involving set procedures and rules but with frequent problems. Requires using basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division involving variables and formulas and/or computing discounts and penalty rates.

Requires reading technical instructions, procedures, manuals, and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms and business letters with proper format and grammar; speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.

Must possess a valid state driver’s license. Must be able to obtain the ABL and MBL certification from the Municipal Association of SC within 5 years of hire.
