Job Duties

Prepares for inspections by reviewing building plans and designs; geotechnical reports; surveys; and electrical, plumbing and mechanical details.

Thoroughly inspects commercial and residential building construction and renovations for compliance with applicable building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, accessibility and fire safety codes, as well as zoning ordinances and standards.

Prepares inspection reports; prepares and issues notices of correction; stop work orders as necessary. Follows up on each case to verify corrections have been made to comply with codes.

Qualifications

Requires an Associate’s Degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college in engineering, architecture, inspection, drafting, construction technology or related field.

Requires four years in commercial and residential building inspection or closely related experience.

Requires the following ICC certifications: Residential Building Inspector, Residential Plumbing Inspector, Residential Electrical Inspector, Residential Mechanical Inspector, Commercial Building Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, Commercial Electrical Inspector, Commercial Mechanical Inspector; additionally, requires valid driver’s license.
