Facilitators must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners
  2. a master's or doctorate degree in planning from an accredited college or university
  3. master's degree in public administration
  4. a license to practice law in South Carolina

The Municipal Association will notify by mail potential facilitators of their acceptance. Association-approved facilitators must receive an orientation to the training materials. The facilitator cannot begin training until meeting all requirements.

Orientation Training is provided in six sessions, packaged conveniently in a professionally-produced curriculum resource disc and is available for local governments to use. The training must be delivered by a trained facilitator approved by the Municipal Association, SC Chapter of the American Planning Association and SC Association of Regional Councils.

The curriculum resource disc allows for this training to be provided in an entertaining and interactive way conducive for participants to learn and retain important lessons in the curriculum.

In order for participants to receive certification credit from the Municipal Association, facilitators must order participant packets from the Association.
