CDL – 1 Driver , Town of Surfside Beach
This position operates and collects refuse using one type of sanitation truck by completing scheduled daily routes, participates in summer and winter roll-out services, transports and dumps refuse at the landfill, and performs related activities as assigned. Successful progression to the safe and efficient operation of more than one type of truck will advance the employee to CDL-2, and eventually CDL-3. Displays respectful, cooperative, and helpful attitude toward fellow employees and the public. Conducts daily inspection of vehicle, and performs basic operator maintenance.
Collects refuse on daily scheduled routes while adhering to safety regulations and procedures. Transports and deposits refuse at assigned landfill sites. Assists on other routes when necessary. Participates in various types of projects as needed throughout the year. Reports to work and leaves work on time as scheduled; adheres to lunch and break schedules as explained in personnel manual; when applicable schedules time off in advance.
Follows all company policies, procedures and safety requirementss Has the ability to drive and operate town owned vehicles. Other duties may be required or assigned.
High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 1-year experience with heavy trucks and/or equipment. Maintain South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B minimum. Oral and written communication skills with ability to read and write legibly and understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
Mathematic skills with ability to make basic computations in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Successful completion of drug screen and various background investigations which may include criminal history, driving record, credit report, employment history, education verification and personal references.
